Kehlani - wish i never
A part slick, tongue-in-cheek song and part regret track, Kehlani deals with remorse for being with someone, feeling like she should have been alone at the time to focus on herself.
There are moments of self-affirmation and confidence in the lyrics, such as “I never let ‘em win 'less I say so/And I don’t show my cards, but I play though” and “I know I coulda held it down for real”. However, for the most part, “wish i never” is regretful with sad undertones in even the production, with the soothing background vocals and the instrumental having a slight haunting feel to it, reinforced by the lines.
It also successfully has a seamless transition into the albums third single with Justin Bieber, “up at night”.
