“21 Years” is the first single from TobyMac in 2020, and is the first song to be released since the passing of his firstborn son, Truett, on October 23, 2019. The song is a tribute to Truett that started out as “some thoughts and feelings” about his passing and turned into a song he “never wanted to write.”
TobyMac’s first official statement was published the day following Truett’s passing on his website, featuring Toby’s initial thoughts during this time of family crisis. He has since made multiple social media posts featuring pictures, reflections, and stories of Truett since then.
