.....I was shocked to my bones to see iye in the compound.. before I could utter a word,she had knelt,my son Amadi,I know I do not deserve your mercy or forgiveness,I have offended you beyond words can say,my daughter is not really to blame,I was the architect of the whole thing, Ehiwenma wanted to be sincere from the beginning,she wanted to be sure of her feelings before saying yes to you,but it was all my idea to make her marry you,I filled her young mind with so many negativity that I regret today,she was rude, disrespectful and arrogant to you,it was all my making,I thought that would make her in charge,she was just a young child trying to please her mother, please Amadi, forgive me,if there's anyone who deserves to be in the police custody,it is me,she said in tears...
I loved you like I love my mother,treated you with so much love and respect,did all I could to put smiles on your faces,but you two choosed to make me a fool,,you are wicked,I said....

I quickly entered my car and drove off immediately mother left...
I arrived at the police station,and I requested for her bail, of course I was declined,I had to call mom,she spoke with them and she was brought out,by now it was almost 8pm,she came out looking pale, apparently,she hadn't slept the previous night,and I was sure she hadn't eaten all through the day....
Iye,walked inside the station,and she was surprised to see me, of course she had used a public vehicle,while I drove as fast as my car could go....
Ovinwen,koor,iye said holding Ehi.
My son,uwese, thank you,I am very grateful, iye said to me...
I am not your son,and I am doing this, not because neither of you deserve my help,but because I don't want anyone behind bars for my sake,I don't want to have anything to do with you and your family,just expect the divorce paper,and sign it,I said and was walking out when Ehi's voice interrupted me....
Amadi,thank you,she said softly....then I walked to my car, I met officer Chucks outside,he was a school mate,we were exchanging pleasantries,when Ehi and her mother walked pass....
We had some catching up to do,and that took some minutes....when we were finally done,I entered the car and drove off, I saw Ehi and her mother trekking along the road..I drove pass them as it was no business of mine,,,but then,my heart wouldn't let me,what if they have no money for transportation,Ehi looks weak already,what would be the case if they get stranded,I thought within,,,I had to drive back to them,are you both planning on trekking home,I asked Ehi....
I couldn't find the money in my purse,, and my automated teller machine's card isn't with me,she explained...
Let me drop you home,I said,thank you very much, Ehi replied, opening the door for her mother to seat at the back,while she joined me in front.....
Thank you very much Amadi,she said, I didn't reply,but continued driving......
No body said a word all through the ride,of course we met traffic on the way, typical of Lagos road....
Soon Ehi started coughing gently,like she was trying to hold it...
Vusunu, Ehiwenma,what is it, her mother asked,,she started coughing out loud,,what is it,I asked curious,but she continued coughing,I had to call for water, thankfully they were around those selling on the road,,,I bought one,and gave her,she drank and soon was better.......
Thank you,she said when she regained herself,,,I still didn't say anything....
Thankfully we were able to drive out of the traffic and headed home,I didn't want to go in,they alighted from the car,and iye thanked me again, then went inside....

I was about driving out,when I decided to take some of my important things,since I was already there...
I alighted from the car and walked inside the compound..
I was about knocking at the door when I heard their conversation...
My daughter,I Know I have failed you in this life,all these you are going through are all my fault,I am very sorry,I regret my actions,I thought I was doing the right thing,I thought I was protecting us from poverty,but now I know better,you know how we suffered in benin, before I had to send you to Lagos,I just didn't want you and your brother to experience hardship,or pain,but seeing the pains you have been going through these past few days,it has made me understand love indeed is better than all the wealth In the world,I am sorry my child,iye said...
Mother,I understand you,you were only doing what you felt was right, I know I have lost A Treasure,but I am glad he has reconciled with his family,there he'd get all the peace he deserves,and hopefully find love again, Amadi is a good man,and he deserves to be happy, Ehi said in tears.....
I walked back,to the car and didn't go inside again,as I drove,my mind kept playing all I had heard, could Ehi really be sorry, could she possibly have falling in love with me,I thought, and drove home....
.I couldn't sleep that night,can a leopard actually change it's spot, Ehi and the mother are evil and can never change,I thought,and tried to sleep .....
The next day, Stan came visiting,his wedding card was out,he had come to let I and mother know, that's why you have been scarce,I teased him .
My brother marriage plans no be small thing ohhh,,,he said,,,and for your info na you be my best man ohh, he said...
Like say I no know,I replied....
We talked about the whole situation with Ehi and his wedding plans,he was sorry I and Ehi wasn't working...
Am sorry about your situation with Ehi, it's so unfortunate that things went this way,you both looked perfect,so sorry man,he said..

Stan stayed till evening,before leaving.....
I walked him out and he drove off, Emeka came to me with a brown envelope,that my wife had given him to deliver to me....

Dear AD
I can not tell you how much I am deeply sorry,I am sorry for everything I put your through,i am sorry for all my actions and inactions,you gave me a path,when I was lost in the wilderness,you gave me light,when darkness beclouded me,you were there for me when I needed someone the most,for these and more,I am very grateful,I pray God bless you richly....
I can no longer live in that house,for my own peace of mind,I have to start afresh,in the envelope,is the key to the supermarket and the house....
I pray you find someone deserving of you....please call me when the divorce papers are ready,and I'd sign it,not because I happy letting you go,but so you find True happiness....
