I was so dull all through the ride home, it was not an easy thing knowing I was on my own and my mother had washed her hands off me,I only wished father never made such decision,I only wished there was a way,,,I wasn't myself at all,and Stan noticed...
You know you can still retrace your step and put a stop to all these, Stan said...
Stan,I really wish I could,but I love Ehi too much,I don't even want to imagine life without her,I replied....
Have you also imagined life without your family,and even the comfortable life you are used to,are you willing to let all that go because of a woman, Stan asked,,
Ehi is not just any woman, she's the one my heart beats for, I replied...
I honestly do wish you know what you are doing and certain about your decision, Stan said...
I am man,I am,I replied confidently.,...
We drove for hours and tried to talk about other things,,,we arrived Lagos very late at night ....
Ehi was home,she was very surprised to see us, apparently she thought we would be sleeping over at mom's....
Honey welcome, Stan welcome,she greeted us, hugging me beautifully....
How did it go,I mean I thought you guys would be sleeping over attttttttttt,,,,baby please get us something to eat first,we are so hungry,I interrupted her questioning...
Oh,okay,let me fix something ASAP,she said and ran Inside the kitchen....she came back again in 30minutes and served us dinner of Eba and ogbono soup....
When I had finished eating I went inside the bedroom to refresh myself,she came with me asking how the journey was, and if we were able to convince mother....
I narrated all that had happened,and mother's finale decision....
So you mean your mother vehemently refused to let us be together and asked you never to return home,and even disinherited you,, that's strange, I mean what kind of mother does that to her son, that's wicked,she said....
Oh no Ehi,it wasn't mother's fault,father had always warned me never to think of marrying any woman who isn't from the eastern part, Else I'd be disinherited,he even started that in will,so mother is only obeying the last wish of her husband,my father,I said....
So what are you going to do now,she asked....
As hard as the decision is,I choosed to be with you,I choosed to love you forever,I said holding her hands....
She didn't give me the bright smile I had hoped to see....
But, how would we survive if you have been disinherited, I mean financially and all that,she asked....
Well,I am a graduate, I'd get a job and we would survive dear,I said...
She looked at me like she wasn't satisfied
I understood her fears,but I was confident everything would be fine...
I didn't have enough money again,as I had spent the one dad had sent to my account before he died to take care of both mine and Ehi's education,I had less than two million Naria in my account,which I knew would not be enough to sponsor a wedding and even life after wedding, I decided it was time to look for a job...
Ehi was posted to Port Harcourt for her NYSC,while I started job hunting,I submitted my CV in various companies,went for interviews,told I'd hear from them,but never did....
Ehi was always demanding for money,I made sure she had more than enough, taking money and not putting back will only mean one thing,that the account would soon be empty...
I needed to get a job, Ken and Stan were also job hunting, thankfully Stan was able to get one,I was seriously praying to have one too,cos having a job would do so much good to me,I wanted to make Ehi and I official immediately she was done with service.....
One year could be so long, especially when you are without the one you love....
My mother and sister had refused calling me,and even when I call, they won't pick my calls,I didn't know my sister could actually stay so long without hearing from me,and even my mother,,I must have really hurt them,I thought,but then,I was helpless in this thing called love.....
Ehi was done with service and had returned to Lagos,,,one evening,I asked her what her plans was,since she was done with school,and she told me she wasn't ready to work yet,she just wanted to enjoy life a bit,I didn't know what she meant,but I didn't want to rush her,if she wasn't ready to work yet,she could take her time untill she was ready,I am the man,and I should be the one looking for a job to take care of her....
Iye had called me, to thank me for all I did,she was so glad her daughter had realized her dreams of being a graduate,even her brother Osas,was learning a skill, courtesy of me,,, I was happy knowing they were happy too..
I told Ken and Stan I wanted to propose to Ehi and they where quite shocked ...
AD, are you sure about this, I mean,I thought you would want to have a rethink about this whole thing, especially because of your family Stand on the issue, Stan said....
While,I can't wait to be married to Ehi,may be after the wedding,my mother would understand how much I love her,and that there wasn't any point dragging the issue since it we were married already,I explained....
This is serious,so you would have your wedding without your mother and sister in attendance,how does that even sound, Ken added....
It sounds modern, people who live abroad get married without both parents in attendance,and it doesn't stop them from being happy,I said...
AD, their parents may not be in attendance,but they give their consent and blessings,but that is not the case with yours, Stan said....
Please enough of all these,,I am an adult,and I Know what's best for me,I called you two here to help me in the planning of the proposal,I Said...
Well it's obvious your mind is made up,,we wish you the best man,ken added..
Thanks guys,I replied,and then we had a plan as to how the proposal would be ....
It was a cool Friday evening,,,I told Ehi we needed to go somewhere,I took her to the best hotel around,,, getting to a reserve section of the five star hotel,i had beautified the atmosphere with balloons and candle light,a big well decorated cake,with the following words, PLEASE MARRY ME,,,I took her to where the cake was,went on my kneels, holding a sparking diamond ring,,, Ehiwenma, would you marry me,I asked with all smiles,,,
She looked at me so shocked,I am sure she was taking by surprise,I was eagerly waiting for a yes,but Ehi turned her back and ran off,,,,
Stan And Ken who were watching from afar hoping to clap out,ran to me,as they where as shocked as I was.....
