Adesua Etomi: A Star On Screen And In Academia, Receives Honorary Degree

Adesua Etomi is one of the most successful and versatile actresses in Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry. She has starred in numerous movies and TV shows, winning awards and accolades for her performances. She is also a proud alumna of the University of Wolverhampton, where she graduated with a first-class honours degree in drama and performance.


Adesua Etomi was born in Owerri, Imo State, to a soldier father of Esan descent and an engineer mother of Yoruba descent. She is the youngest of three siblings. She made her debut in 2014 with the movie Knocking On Heaven’s Door, where she played the role of Debbie, an abused wife. Her performance was praised by critics and audiences alike, and she was nominated for several awards.


Since then, she has appeared in many other movies and TV shows, such as Falling, The Wedding Party, The Arbitration, Shuga, LasGidi Cops, King of Boys, and Sugar Rush. She has also featured in several stage plays, such as Shattered, Anatomy of a Woman, London Life Lagos Living, Saro, Les Miserables, and The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives.


Adesua Etomi has won many awards for her acting skills, such as the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama in 2016 for Falling, and the ELOY Award for Actress of the Year in 2017 for The Wedding Party. She has also been recognized internationally, as she was featured on Vogue’s list of 14 global superstars in 2019.

She has maintained a close relationship with her alma mater, the University of Wolverhampton, where she has been invited as a guest speaker and mentor for aspiring actors. In 2021, she received an honorary degree from the university for her outstanding achievements in the arts and entertainment industry.


Adesua Etomi is married to Banky W, a singer and politician. They tied the knot in 2017 in a lavish ceremony that was dubbed as the wedding of the year. In 2021, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Hazaiah Wellington.
