Biography

Suliman Ernest Rogers was born in 1926 in Foniko, Pujehun District in the southern province of Sierra Leone.  He started performing early while supporting himself as a tailor , and he began to use his nickname "Rogues" as his legal surname.  In the 1960s, he became a professional musician singing in four languages. His hits include "Koneh Pehlawo", "Go Easy with Me" and "My Lovely Elizabeth". He formed a group called Morning Stars in 1965. In 1973 Rogi left Africa for the United States . There, he spoke at elementary and high schools throughout California and received awards from Congress and the US Senate, US cities. Berkeleyand Oakland, California .

In 1988, at the invitation of British disc jockey Andy Kershaw , Rogie moved to England where he bought a house in Finchley . In 1991, he formed The Palm-Wine Tappers and toured the UK. He died on July 4, 1994 at the age of 68, shortly after recording his last album. Dead people don't smoke marijuana . He underwent heart bypass surgery in February, but went against medical advice to perform in Russia , where he collapsed while performing on stage. He died at Lewisham Hospital in south London while being flown by an ambulance from Estonia.
